Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 3 to Sport Fingerprint Scanner?

Even though we can’t know for sure what surprises the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will reserve for us, the rumor mill gives us some clues about the technologies that will be used by the South Korean company for it’s next-gen high end devices. It seems that Apple is not the only company that is planning to launch smartphones and tablets equipped with fingerprint scanner, which will be used as a security system for unlocking the screen and in-app authentication. The guys at Sammobile received an anonymous tip saying that Samsung is also readying fingerprintscanners which willbe most likely fittedinside the unannounced Samsung Galaxy S5 and Samsung GalaxyNote 3. Moreover, a set of clues regarding the fingerprint scannerswas discovered in the Android firmware delivered with the Samsung Galaxy S3, showing that the South Korea-based company is on the verge of introducing such a protection system for its Galaxy devices, and the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Samsung GalaxyNote 3 might be thefirst to receive it. The presence of the support for using biometric authentication system was discovered by mistake by an user, who was searching through an archive containing the system files for Samsung Galaxy S3, called SecSettings.apk. Without leaving toomuch room for interpretations, the image suggests thatSamsung is undergoing internaltests with an authentication system that involves fingerprintscanning. Still, the logs doesn’t reveal anything about the way the new fingerprint scanning mechanism will be used for the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 3, as it only shows a guide that shows the users how to use it correctly. On the other hand, Apple is reported to introduce a fingerprint scanner for the upcoming smartphones and tablets running iOS, as the Cupertino-based company has purchased last summer the portfolio of the AuthenTec security company. Moreover,Apple has also signed a contract with an Australian company called Microlatch, which allows them to use a technology that allow integration offingerprint scanning support in the apps that use NFC connectivity. Unfortunately, both Apple and Samsung have started to experiment using fingerprint scanning systems before the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S4 were launched, but the aforementioned systems didn’t makeit under the hood oftheir flagship smartphones. Since the Galaxy S4 was launched a couple of months ago, the South Korean company will probably fit the new sensor inside the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Samsung Galaxy S5. With the iPhone 6 / iPhone 5S release date reportedly scheduled for this fall, Apple might usethe biometric authentication system in their marketing campaigns in order to highlight the new features of the iPhone 6 compared to the Galaxy S4 rival.
